Where have all the S'poreans gone?

Been shopping 'alittle' more lately coz of Xmas + all the irisistable sales that's gg on. 60% of the time, i see non-sporeans. THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

Fine, you may say they are tourists, btw i'm not talking abt ang-mos here. But how about the ppl wking IN the stores? All the cleaning ladies with heavy make-up @ ION, sales asst @ my fave ZARA,grrRR, half the time they are non-sporeans. Buy things u see them, go for a meal u see them too and u think that's all? NO!

Was @ Orchard ytd, wanting to get from Wisma to Paragon. I would usually take the underpass to Taka then out but coz it was so crowded, i decided to go out from Wisa & walk via the normal pathway. Not exactly my preferred 'route' coz of the surveyers whom most of the time r students rite?..guess what? A chinese speaking girl holding this piece of survey sheet came up to me asking if i can spare her a few mins, when i said no..she continued asking if i'm sporean. SERIOUSLY!! With that accent of hers..asking ME a true blue Sporean if i am one?!WTH?

I know..we shd encourage foreign 'talents' coming to Spore..blah blah..but dun anyone think that Spore is starting to get a little tooo small for them? And talents anot,i'm not even sure. Till sometimes i wonder..am i in Spore?

PEK/PVG :: 6-16 Nov 09

Me & Toh's long-awaited hol!It wasnt that difficult choosing where to go since he has always wanted to go Beijing and me wanting to go Shanghai to visit some frds, so tah-dah, Beijing AND Shanghai it shall be.

10 days was just nice coz we had lots of time to juz lay pak and do nothing.Ours was an early flight, 8.40am, touched down abt 2+ in the afternoon. Thank God we din need to haggle for a taxi, coz i really hate hving to do that.

Us on the cab, on the way to the hotel. It was a pretty long ride to the city, abt 50mins.Beijing is damn big, so well....

By the time we checked in and all, it was already abt 4+. As its winter, the day is very short, by abt 5pm, the sky's already dark. The hotel that we stayed in is relatively near 'Wangfujing' & yeah, we hv to go there! The weather was still OK, cold but bearable, abt 15degrees (Day 1)

Day 1 dinner, Peking Duck. This plc was highly recommended in most travel guides/forums but sighh...it really wasnt that fantastic.

Uncle Toh & his Oolong tea

Day 2 started quite late, around 11am. I honestly duno if its pollution or the weather. Beijing was just too 'foggy'....(dun like)

SEE!!soo foggy, pictures turn out noo nice, noo nice!

The must-visit - Tiananmen Square (check out the number of ppl there!) *FAINT*

And of coz ...THE FORBIDDEN CITY! (which is just opp Tiananmen Square).

WAHH...WAHH!!'Haze or Fog aside, i have to admit that it was pretty amazing.

Audio-guide. Once again, dun be fooled by the distance of each palace, its verry verry far apart...so yes..more walking.

Finally!!an area with no ppl...SO...hurhur!!

This is 'Yu Hua Yuan'. Rather disappointing thou, probably coz its winter bah,so the trees were all 'dead'. Anyways, this was the plc where the emperor used to play 'catching'/hide & seek with his concubines...keke!

Sad to say, after about 4.5rs of walking, we only managed to cover 80% of the palaces. Believe we din miss out much la, since most of them look pretty much the same after 4.5hrs......

walk walk walk....-_-"

Visiting all the H&M was on my personal agenda and woo hoo....here's the 1st!

I have to say, the malls in Beijing are hugge...ION wat?

Day 3 started even later...YAWWWN + brrrr! Weather probably about 10degress..

~Temple of Heaven~

HELP!

NOOO!!

~Beijing Railway Station~

More shopping!

All i can about Day 3 is...lots of walking...LOTS!!!its like completing a 20km walkaton or smething. All thanks to Unle Toh who says....'Oh,can walk one...', 'This plc?,based on the map,can walk one,dun need to take taxi'.....YA RITE!!

Day 4 started real early, abt 7.30am.It was also the day that Toh has been looking forward to the most....Great Wall. Brrr......it was raining and we thought damn, wat a day...but guess wat...the rain turned into snow eventually!!But gosh, that was also the day the weather went from 10degrees to 2degrees! + IT WAS BLARDY WINDY AT GREAT WALL...BRRRRRRRR!

SNOWING!! (grrrrrrrr)

Day 5, BRRRR....temp was -2degrees but check out the view from our hotel......& clear skies (finally!)

SNOW!

Mr Toh forced me to wake up at 6am, coz he wants to catch the flag rising ceremony at Tiananman (@ 6.50am). FINE, thinking that it muz be a HUGE arse ceremony. When we were there, there were lots of police, military police and of coz lots of ppl & torists. They even cordon off a few roads along Tiananmen. We reached there like 6.45am, but Tiananmen is soo huge,we ran. Yes we RAN!

We managed to squeeze our way in. And guess what....this grp of army started marching in...the national anthem was played, the flag was rised, they marched off....END.

WTF????We braved the cold, woke up sooo blardy early and ran just to see this?? Seriously?? At that very moment, i soo wanted to strip Toh and let him freeze his arse off in front of the stopid flag pole can? Wah Lao...really...FAINT!

Gǔlóu (鼓楼), the drum tower of Beijing, is situated at the northern end of the central axis of the Inner City to the north of Di’ anmen Street. Originally built for musical reasons, it was later used to announce the time and is now a tourist attraction.

Zhōnglóu (钟楼), the bell tower of Beijing, stands closely behind the drum tower. Together with the drum tower, they provides an overview of central Beijing and before the modern era, they both dominated Beijing's ancient skyline.

Bell Tower (super boring plc)

main reason coz i need to climb up this flight of stairs...for both Gu Lou & Zhong Lou!bleah!

Yeah! Top of the Bell Tower~

Hutongs (simplified Chinese: 胡同; traditional Chinese: 衚衕; pinyin: hútòng) are narrow streets or alleys, most commonly associated with Beijing, China. In Beijing, hutongs are alleys formed by lines of siheyuan, traditional courtyard residences

Since the mid-20th century, the number of Beijing hutongs has dropped dramatically as they are demolished to make way for new roads and buildings. More recently, some hutongs have been designated as protected areas in an attempt to preserve this aspect of Chinese cultural history.

This is the biggest/longest Hutong in Beijing. Forgot the name thou but its just opp the Bell Tower. Love walking along the Hutong + the shops actually sell really cool stuff.

Note:MORE WALKING!

The food there is generally oily + salty, i mean real salty. The food that i had on a daily basis...egg noodles!!and its nice! egg la-mian, fried egg la-mian, soup, dry,fried..i had it all...huruhr!

Uncle Toh's fave...grill lamb leg

Super oily mabo toufu

KFC!there are lots of KFC in Beijing...lots!! But for sme weird reason, the Zinger is alot spicier than ours.

Another of Uncle Toh fave, beef noodles. He had that like almost everyday.

Hurhur!

Day 6 ~ OFF TO SHANGHAI! Early flight, abt 8.10am flight. Thank goodness we took one of the earliest flight coz it was snowing quite heavily, so the plane was not able to take off. They spent about an hr clearing the snow on the plane as well as the run way. Saw the news that the flights in the afternoon were all delayed and sme cancelled...phew!!

The weather was so much hotter in Shanghai, well at least on the 1st day, about 18degrees. But after the rain on the night of day 1....woooo...cold! Nothing close to what we experienced in beijing, but 'cold enuff', hurhur!

Din take much pixs in Shanghai coz it rained almost all 4days we were there. I really love Shanghai thou, the ppl are soo much friendlier, the plc is cleaner, less spitting, the food is better & the shopping is waay better. Lesser historic sights thou but i dun care!

Ice cream!

The street that our hotel is at...'Xia Xi Bei Lu', we keep saying 'Shan Xi Bei Lu'....bleah!

Met up with dearie!!!Thou it was only a day affair but good enuff! :)

ZARA!Lots of ZARA in Shanghai..and they are all at least 2-storey can? LOVE IT!

The Famous 'NANJING LU' - By Day
